How to win at online poker.
Psyche yourself up
When you are off to join a real bricks and mortar poker game,
dont you have some time to psyche yourself up for the game?...yes, but
when you sit down to internet poker, you can easily dive in to a table
and make poor desisions, that means losing money. Take a few minutes to
think about your goals and strategies. Even better, warm up on a play
poker table. Be prepared, try to make the right desicions from the moment
you start to play for real money.
Choose your nickname carefully
When you sign up for an account, think about your nickname, try not to
giveaway any clues about where you are from, what age you are. If you
do wish to give away this information, make it misleading information.
When you create an online persona, its a chance to reinvent yourself.
Dont get too excited
When you first start to play online poker, you'll be so thrilled at the
fact you can can join a real money game right from your home, that you
will become awestruck. Dont get too excited and try to keep your discipline
or lose your wallet!...over time the excitment will fade and you will
be able to bring a stable attitude to the game.
Make notes and keep them at hand
All the time your playing online poker, write notes to yourself about
what to achieve and what to avoid. Take notes about the other players,
take a glance at all the tips you need to learn and all the moves you
know you should be making. You cant do this at a real bricks and mortar
table but online you can be overly prepared to win.
Dont trust short term out comes
If you track your play and find you're not turning the profit you thought
you'd turn, remind yourself that your results may not be statistically
valid yet. You have to book a lot of hours into any poker game before
reliable trends emerge. If you lose your first five sessions, dont conclude
your a loser and quit. Like wise if you win your first five sessions,
dont imagine that you have the game licked. Youve been inspired, or lucky,
so far, but only hard work and concentration will keep your win rate high.
Straightforward play takes the money
Most online players lack sufficient discipline to play a sound, straightforward
game of selective/aggressive poker. They call too much, which means that
you'll make money by punishing them with your strong hands...not by bluffing.
Only bluff whn you are certain that noone else wants the pot. Otherwise
just wait for strong hands and bet them as hard as you can.
Watch big games and tournaments
Even if you dont feel like investing a lot of money in online play, there
are planty of big games to sit in and watch. Spend some time studying
both big money games and big tournaments. You'll have a view of all the
hands, and can give thoughtful study to which moves the players make and
why. You can often learn more about poker by not playing poker at all.
Online tournaments
Online tournaments offer a brilliant learning opportunity, because you
get to see a lot of hands, quite a lot of game for a relatively small
fixed investment. As a bonus, much of what you learn about online tournament
strategy is actually applicable to real world tournaments, where picking
off physical tells is less important than your overall game strategy.
As a further bonus ....you might win!!

Table tips
- Remember when entering into an online poker game and you want to play
for real money. Now that real money is involved players start to play
differently. Of course like in any game where the stakes get high, the
game gets tighter.
What I'm, saying is that you will have to tighten up your own game when
you move from the testing tables to the real money table. Try and play
a little tighter than any of your opponents or you'll end up losing
money fast.
- When you enter into online poker and you are serious about winning
here is a few things to remember. You are going to see tables and lots
of them, so take your time to do some research, you'll be using different
strategies for a table with ten players than with a table of two.
- When you pick a table, stick with it and learn, get used to it and
learn it properly.
To win at online poker you simply have to beat the players at your chosen
table, so it would be a good idea in your research to choose the players
that you will play against, Watch how opponents bet, and how much they
bet, in what position are they betting. Learning how your opponents
play is key. Well at least dont get on the tables with top professionals,
or you will lose. Get to know who the good players are and avoid them.
- Theres something called a flop percentage and this determines the
quality of the players at the table. If players are paying to see the
flop, 25% would make it tight, 40% would indicate a pretty loose game.
- Another one to remember, watch how big the pot sizes are, if the
average is big then more players are likely to be contributing.
